Grid Project Title: Frenchman with Chimney

Purpose of Project:

For Frenchman flats we created 3D meshes of a selected area - a subset of the data provided. Faults were included and identified as a seperate material. Three versions were created; an 8 layer version which only included the provided surfaces. A 53 layer version that had layers buffered at a distance of 5 meters, and various vertical refinements between the different surfaces. And a 53 layer version to which a chimney structure of finer refinement and seperate material was added to the middle of the mesh.

Image shows the 3D tetrahedral mesh from the NE corner. The refined area is the chimney structure. Faults can be seen colored in dark blue.

Summary of Project:

For Frenchman flats we created 3D meshes of a selected area - a subset of the data provided. Faults were included and identified as a seperate material. Three versions were created; an 8 layer version which only included the provided surfaces. A 53 layer version that had layers buffered at a distance of 5 meters, and various vertical refinements between the different surfaces. And a 53 layer version to which a chimney structure of finer refinement and seperate material was added to the middle of the mesh. 2D slices were extracted and smoothing used to improve the quality of the grid.
The the coordinate mins and maxs for subset region were 590500. 4069500.  -3000.  and  599500. 4078500.  1900. The refined chimney was located at a  rectangle with lower corner at 594000, 4074000 and upper corner at 595000, 4075000. The refinement for the chimney is 5x in the vertical in each unit.
The fault regions were found by using settets/normal routine from LaGriT. For each surface, the triangles are colored according to the direction for the normal. Element faces with steep inclines are found and colored. During mread/trilayers these surface colors are maintained and fault values are assigned starting at top unit value.
