Purpose of Project

Build 3D mesh using surfaces provided. Mesh should have good aspect ration at block boundaries and allow for excavation of material in where the two mines are located.

I have created 4 integer element attributes.

id_block = 1 inden
         = 2 rur
         = 3 erft

id_mat   = layer number

I did not try to correlate the stratigraphic information you provided in rhine_graben_stratigraphy.xls. I just stacked up the layers, bottom to top so the bottom layer is id_mat = 1. You will have to use the combination of id_block and id_mat to assign coal, sandstone, clay, etc.

id_fault = 0 not fault
         = 1 fault between block1 and block2 (inden/rur)
         = 2 fault between block2 and block3 (rur/erft)

id_mine  = 1 mine in inden block
         = 2 mine in erft block
         = 3 elements NOT associated with any mine pit
