Grid Project:   Romanian 2002 3D

Purpose of Project

Create a three-dimensional Structured grid that incorporates stratigraphy from a new hydrostratigraphic model (HFM) and encompases a 6900x7900 meter area around the potential low level site. The grid will be used as part of a modeling study to calculate flow and reactive transport, using FEHM. This version is truncated at the top by the water table near 10 meters and is given a base at -200 meters.

Final Computational Grid has 3 Materials and is the Truncated by Water Table 3 Clay, 2 Limestone, 1 No Flow Clay

Design Criteria

• Use stratigraphy from 2002 3D Hydrostratigrahic model with water table as top surface.
• Create a structured grid with tetrahedral elements that can be computed by FEHM.
• Use 100 meter horizontal spacing that captures the location where the proposed repository will be sited.
• Target number of nodes is 100,000.

The Grid Method successfully follows the design criteria.
